First off, before we get too far into this heat wave conversation.... I want to point out the obvious, IF you have pets (dogs, cats, birds, whatever...) PLEASE PUT THEM INSIDE this week or really anytime the temps get this high. Putting them in some shade and giving them a little bowl of water is NOT going to do the trick.

Okay, now that we have that covered... A lot of people will be using their ac units over the next few days, in doing so you could create a power outage aka a blackout. Officials are urging consumers to conserve electricity between 2 pm to 9 pm over the next couple of days to help prevent an outage.

According to CAISO officials, electric customers can help avoid power outages by:

  • Turning off all unnecessary lights
  • Using major appliances before 2:00 p.m. or after 9:00 p.m.
  • Setting air conditioners to 78 degrees or higher

During times of higher temperatures, demand on the power grid can be strained as air conditioner use increases. Please check out the video below for more info:

AND if you are in need to beat the heat and looking for a way to stay cool, below is a ton of info on cooling centers around Bakersfield:
