The Exorcist Remake Is Happening As A Trilogy With An Original Cast Member

The initial news that that would be an Exorcist remake was met with a big fat “Nope,” by some horror aficionados that continue to hail the original as an all time classic. There was even a change.org petition to stop it from happening all together. The link is still live and barely has 500 signatures at the time of this writing.

But now we know the remake is happening and is a trilogy, not unlike the Halloween trilogy. (It’s the same folks, so that makes sense!)

From The Hollywood Reporter:

Leslie Odom Jr. (from Hamilton) is set to star in the coming reboot of The Exorcist from Blumhouse and Morgan Creek Productions, in partnership with Universal and Peacock.

Ellen Burstyn will also reprise her role as Chris MacNeil, with David Gordon Green earlier tapped to direct the first of three planned movies. Universal and Peacock acquired the worldwide rights to create new IP based on The Exorcist franchise in partnership with Blumhouse and Morgan Creek. The first film in the planned trilogy will be released theatrically on Oct. 13, 2023. And Universal will play The Exorcist revival in theaters and on Peacock to allow the NBCUniversal streamer to keep signing up subscribers.

The original Exorcist came out in 1973. It was followed in 1977 by Exorcist 2: The Heretic, which was TRASH. 1990's Exorcist 3: Legion is actually good and highly underrated. The trailers for each of those are below.

There’s no word on Linda Blair, who played Regan MacNeil being a part of this new remake.
