Doctors Perplexed Over Why 8-Month-Old Weighs 38 Pounds

Chahat Kumar was born at an average weight in Punjab, India, but at four-months-old, she started rapidly gaining weight and now, at eight months old, she tips the scales at 38 pounds.

Her parents say their daughter's appetite is insatiable explaining, "She doesn't eat like a normal kid. She keeps eating all the time. If we don't give her anything to eat, she starts crying."

They deny that they've caused her affliction, with her dad stating, "It's not our fault. God gave this condition to her. It's not in our hands. I feel bad when some people laugh at her for being so fat."

After losing their first baby at childbirth, they're very concerned for Chahat's health, especially since her weight is causing problems with her breathing and sleeping. However, doctors are baffled by what's going on.

Making things even more difficult, Chahat has abnormally hard skin so getting blood samples to help with a diagnosis is challenging.

The family can't afford to travel for more advanced treatment but with Chahat eating as much as a 10-year-old every day, doctors feel it is crucial she get help.
